Definition

Self-disciplined means the training and control of oneself and one's conduct, usually for personal improvement" (American Heritage Dictionary). A closely associated term would be self-regulation. One demonstrates self-discipline through making decisions to persevere towards a goal or purpose through hard work and effort. In addition to being in control of one's behavior, self-discipline also means to be in control of one's thoughts, values, and commitments.
